Johannes Kretz
Second Vice President, Vienna, Austria (2026-2030)
Johannes Kretz is a composer, electronics performer and artistic researcher living in Vienna. Since 1997: Lecturer for computer music at mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, since 2001 also music theory, since 2004 composition, since 2009: habilitation in composition, associate professor. 2018-2022: Principal Investigator of “creative (mis)understandings” (4-year AR project funded by FWF-PEEK). Since 2020 Head of the Artistic Research Center (ARC) of mdw. 2021: Chair of Conference Committee of the 12th International Conference of Artistic Research of SAR. Since 2023: member of the Research Advisory Council of Orpheus Institute, Ghent, Belgium. Since 2024: member of core AR-Ensemble in PEEK project “Philosophy in the Arts : Arts in Philosophy.
His works have been performed worldwide, at/with: National Theater Hall, Taipei, Wien modern festival, Festival Ars Electronica, Konzerthaus Wien, Eclat festival Stuttgart, Klangforum Wien, Tonkünstler Orchester, Omnibus Ensemble Taschkent and many others.
Johannes was elected as SAR Executive Board Member for the period 2024—2028, and was elected as Second Vice President for the period 2026—2030.
